Bowls History at Rosebud Country Club
The Bowls Section of Rosebud Country Club was officially established in 1969 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in October 2019. Today, the Club boasts three high-quality grass bowling greens, two constructed with Bent grass and one with Tiftdwarf, alongside a well-appointed clubhouse that serves as the focal point for members and visitors alike.
The Club’s first bowling green was built in 1968 and officially opened on 12 October 1969. Over the years, two additional greens were added, reflecting the vision and foresight of the Club’s early members whose planning and dedication laid the foundation for today’s thriving bowls community.
Throughout its history, numerous members have generously contributed their time and labour to the development of the Club’s extensive facilities. Their efforts have left a lasting legacy, allowing all members to take pride in a complex that continues to grow and evolve.
Today, the three championship greens, complemented by an attractive and functional clubhouse, provide an impressive setting for both competitive and social bowls. Early competitions were held on Thursdays and Saturdays; however, current competition days now include Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with Pennant matches conducted on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the season. Social bowls are played year-round, either in casual attire or Club uniform, with approved bowling shoes.
The ongoing development and maintenance of the Bowls Section reflect Rosebud Country Club’s commitment to preserving a rich tradition while providing facilities for members to enjoy the sport of bowls at all levels.
